A delegation from the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), led by Executive Dean Qi Yalin, visited the School of Journalism and Communication at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on Nov. 17. The two sides held discussions on discipline development, talent cultivation, and teaching-material cooperation.
SISU Dean Wu Ying highlighted the school’s “multilingual + international communication” education model, which leverages the university’s multilingual strengths and integrates teaching with think-tank research through platforms such as the China International Public Opinion Research Center. The school continues to supply graduates with international communication capabilities to the media, government agencies, and multinational companies.
Vice Dean Wu Xiujuan outlined SISU's talent development model, centered on interdisciplinary skills, a flexible enrollment system deferring the choice of a major until the second year, and hands-on training via media partnerships. She further highlighted practice-oriented credits, dual-supervisor mentoring, and ongoing initiatives in AI-driven course design and faculty recruitment to boost global communication capabilities.
The Department Chair of Journalism at SISU, Lin Yan, shared experiences in partnerships with local media centers, including year-round English content production led by faculty and students, which provides hands-on training in planning, reporting, and cross-cultural communication and helps students develop strategies for international audiences.
Qi Yalin introduced UCASS’s approach, highlighting the integration of research and teaching through the “science-education fusion” mechanism, and emphasized the school’s focus on international communication, intelligent media, and Marxist journalism. He praised SISU’s talent cultivation model and expressed interest in strengthening future collaboration to address challenges in journalism and communication education.
CASS faculty members Wang Kaishan and Shi Lin expressed interest in SISU’s “Backpack Journalist Team”, think-tank initiatives, and potential collaboration on joint research and international field studies.
The visit identified complementary strengths in talent development, practical projects, and think-tank research, paving the way for future collaboration in international communication education.
