The 2025 list of funded projects under the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Program has been released. Two proposals from the School of Journalism and Communication of Shanghai International Studies Universtiy have been approved. These are A Compilation and Study of Newly Discovered Newspaper Articles by Marx and Engels from 1848 to 1849, led by Dr. Xia Qi, and Ethical Risks and Normative Frameworks of Human Machine Social Support, led by Dr. Pan Shuyi.

A Compilation and Study of Newly Discovered Newspaper Articles by Marx and Engels from 1848 to 1849 compiles primary materials related to the journalistic activities of Marx and Engels during the European revolutions of 1848 to 1849, including newspaper originals and correspondence. It sorts newly identified articles and provides additional historical sources for studies on the Marxist view of journalism, according to Dr. Xia.

Ethical Risks and Normative Frameworks of Human Machine Social Support examines the phenomenon of human machine social support by drawing on theories of human computer interaction, social support, and social robots. It investigates potential ethical risks, the mechanisms that generate these risks, and possible ethical guidelines for human machine interaction, according to Dr. Pan.

The Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Program highlights contemporary issues and promotes research with clear problem orientation and innovative perspectives. The approval of these two projects reflects the school’s ongoing efforts to support organized research and advance high quality academic output.
